“Valentine’s Day Massacre” is the kind of film that must be accepted on its own terms. To expect-the-book authenticity, or at the 1970 graphic violence or widespread shooting location, asking too much.
There is a small scene in which George Segal, as one of the murderous brothers Guesenberg, intimidates a speakeasy owner to buy beer provided by Bugs Moran. Tactics similar to those employed by James Cagney in “Public Enemy”, and this is a small house that should tell viewers that the film is going to make a mere pretense of accuracy – and that is fine. “Massacre” is a thoroughly entertaining film that never tries to be nothing more or less than that. Jangling
Fred Steiner, dissonant score deserves a mention.
It has the Charleston-like rhythm, dominated by a piano.
It is a surprisingly effective thing I heard to best effect for the title fee.
Among the cast, no one turns to what might be called a brilliant performance, but Ralph Meeker probably comes from better choice of Bugs Moran, especially as he pronounces the crime boss’ most famous quote, close at the end. Jean Hale definitely got my attention as a friend Segal, and Clint Richie is appropriately evil as Machine Gun Jack McGurn, who masterminded the murders title.
I found the film entertaining, even though Jason Robards almost like Al Capone.
The movie has Al Capone cut the neck of his opponent Joe Aiello on a train that tried to leave Chicago before the massacre was still scheduled. However, Joe Aiello died in hail of bullets on October 23, 1930 as he left an apartment building, more than a year after the massacre took place. This would be an easy fact to substantiate, but the film contains this unnecessary mistake.
The film also has Albert Anselmi and John Scalise was murdered by Capone with a baseball bat in “Capone’s house” after a banquet in their honor.
The killings actually took place in Hammond, Indiana, home of the roads. Moreover, Joe Guinta was a third slaughtered to death at that time. Finally, the film includes Boris Chapman and Adolph Moeller as two who took part in the Valentine’s Day Massacre. That may or may not be, but no mention of Fred “Killer” Burke who is widely believed to be the one who took part in the killings definitely.
The movie was very entertaining and worthwhile, but the errors I mentioned would definitely easily checked out.
Roger Corman made again at this late edition of the sixties of the most brutal days
history probition. This love letter to Al Capone
may come about as a stylist, violent cartoons, but those who know k. Ergo
Corman will accept this version as exploitive entertainment. < br /> Presented in a “real” narrative (voiced by the late great
Paul Frees) this movie centers around the same bloody day and how
was done from start to ends with Mr. Capone played all
Outside, across the top Robards Jason.
And what a “Red Gallery stock
players George Segal, Ralph Meeker, Kurt Kruger, John Agar, Bruce Dern,
Harold Stone to name a few and look quickly for a young Jack Nicholson as thugs.
Those who look to the theater, a space created for the sole purpose of entertainment, for the purpose of witnessing the real-life accounts of true stories is a bit naive and more than a little silly.
What; You mean the epic battle depicted in “300″ was not really so;
No way!
Are you telling me that Mozart was not really immoral buffoon obsessed with humor lowbrow, as depicted in “Amadeus”;
When was the last time you saw a movie stuck the simple facts? For me, it was “1492: Conquest of Paradise” back in ’92. Yet some still argue that the film is a poor distillation of truth.
” Valentine’s Day Massacre “is a movie full of factual truths, as Roger Corman never meant to be.
It is a fun, fast and highly entertaining film with some really great sets.
You think you might be shooting for the re- this;
However, for starters, Roberts is a bit amateurish as Capone. Yes, he has the look nothing like Capone did.
But if you’re a fan of the gangster era and films generally give it a chance, it is undoubtedly one of the best b-movies ever to come out of the bunk career Corman.
And by the way, if you harsh reality, watch a documentary.
I always liked the ST. MASACRE VALENTINE’S DAY, despite the historical liberties. This is a hard drive gangsters and a good tip on it. This is one of the best films of Roger Corman. History is full of action and characters of the film is rather charismatic.
The cast that includes Jason Robards, Ralph Meeker, George Segal, Joseph Campanella, Frank Silvera, David Canary, John Agar, Jack Nicholson, Leo Gordon, Jean Hale, Harold J. Stone and Bruce Dern. Just can not get cast in films like this anymore.composed by Fred Steiner one of the best score for this film. However simplistic and superficial, this film may seem to be very entertaining and well constructed and immediately gets your attention and pulls you? The sequence leading to Valentine’s Day Massacre is very suspenseful.
